Planned Giving – Estate Planning
If you have ever thought about, or even wished you could do something financially material for the Chihuahuan Desert Research Institute (CDRI) and perhaps did not think you were able, we hope that you’ll consider naming CDRI in your estate planning. Connecting people with nature is at the heart of everything we do at CDRI, anchored in a mission of fun and engaging education for people of all ages. We know that many of you share this deep respect for nature and all that it means in our lives. A gift to CDRI’s permanent endowment is one way to make a lasting connection to those values.
Formed in 1974, and beginning early operations at the Nature Center site around 1984, CDRI continues to engage families and people of all ages in exploring the diverse world of flora, fauna and geology on our 507 acres. We believe that if we teach children to love nature and remind adults of their connections with nature, both audiences will be its stewards in the future. Your bequest, which would be combined with the three prior such bequests that have resulted in a $2M Permanent Endowment, will help to continue and grow this legacy for generations to come.
There are relatively simple ways to support CDRI by making a current commitment regarding a future gift. By including CDRI in your will you can indicate an amount, or a percentage, of your estate as a charitable gift. Another method of gifting, is to name CDRI as a beneficiary in your life insurance policy or retirement plan, including IRAs, pensions, or 401k or 403b plans. A charitable gift annuity is another effective means of making a gift to a non-profit like CDRI. Using such a gift allows the donor/annuitant to receive income from the gift for a designated number of future years, including up to the remainder of his/her life, while the residual passes on to the non-profit upon the donor/annuitant’s passing.
Please consult your attorney, accountant or professional advisor about making a gift to CDRI. We are pleased to consider any analysis or structure your advisor wishes to explore. Contact us if you wish to know more about our strategic plan, our future vision or about programming at CDRI. Naming rights are also a possibility, should you wish that form of recognition. We are an open book, viewing our role as merely one of being a steward of this site and of the public’s trust. We’re pleased to share information with you.
