Become a CDRI Trail Guide
- at our -
Interpretive Guide Training Day

Throughout the year, CDRI offers its Certified Interpretive Guide Training Programs. One of the prgrams will qualify you to be a trail guide for Modesta Canyon Trail and Clayton's Overlook Trail, while another training program will qualify you as a guide for the Botanical Gardens and Cactus Greenhouse.
As either a trail guide or a garden guide, you will lead groups of 10-15, either school-aged students or adults.  Whether it's a guided hike or a garden tour, these events are scheduled a minimum of two weeks ahead of the desired date, and guides choose whether they are available on a specified date.   CDRI will provide lunch for guides who work through the Noon hour, and we always have a large homemade cookie from Stone Village Market as a thank-you for each of our hiking guides.

Upon working 30 volunteer hours during the calendar year, you earn the distinction of being recognized as a  Vital Volunteer. In addition to recognition of attaining the status of Vital Volunteer, you will receive a special token of our appreciation from the CDRI Gift Shop. These have ranged from denim shirts with our embroidered logo, to Chihuahuan Desert Nature Center t-shirts, to embroidered caps.

Contact us at 432-364-2499 or email programs@cdri.org to learn more about volunteering at the Chihuahuan Desert Nature Center.
